15-year-old Mickey Dortmund has a crush on 17-year-old Oscar Heim, the son of a wealthy family next door. Oscar has fallen in love with Mickey's sister, 16-year-old Tina. Due to concerns about burglary, Oscar's mother Linda (played by Beth Grant - Donnie Daco, Miss Sunshine) asked the Dortmund family to help take care of her daughter's wedding. Linda made it clear that she didn't want the Dortmund family to leave the family room, but once she left, Mickey broke into Oscar's bedroom. Mickey made an Oscar totem using Oscar's pants and shirt, placed the totem on the toilet, and then touched it in a pornographic way. When the Heim family returned home early, Mickey was distracted by his mother's drunken fall from downstairs and had not yet removed the totem.
