When soldiers are killed, they often become anonymous numbers in news reports. But behind every number, there is someone who left behind a heartbroken family. The title 1489 refers to the anonymous number for the body of an individual who disappeared during the operation. This is the number assigned to 21-year-old student and musician Soghomon Vardanyan. In September 2020, when the conflict between Azerbaijan and his homeland Armenia erupted again over the issue of Alsah (Nagorno Karabakh), he had just completed his military service. On the seventh day of the war, Sogomon went missing. His sister Shoghakat decided to use a mobile phone camera to capture her search with her parents and their emotional process. Six months later, the bones were discovered, but DNA research is still needed to determine whether these remains are truly the remains of a ghoul, and the family will have to wait for a year and a half to obtain the results. Shoghakat has been continuously filming, even in the most intimate and vulnerable moments, which can sometimes make people feel uncomfortable. But at the same time, it makes the intense sadness and loss of a flesh and blood person more apparent.
